DIY Faraday Challenge Day

The DIY Faraday Challenge Day has been created to answer the high demand for our programme of Faraday Challenge Day events each year.

DIY Faraday Challenge Day

We can provide you with a set of printable resources and guidance notes for teachers and technicians to run your very own Faraday Challenge Day to bring science, design and technology, engineering and maths (STEM) together in an engaging way.

The DIY Faraday Challenges not only practice key STEM skills and knowledge but also encourage the development of students’ problem solving, team working and communication skills.

There are seven different challenges and we provide all the resources you need to run one in your school.

Who is it for?

Designed for six teams of six students (36 students in total) aged 12 – 13 years (year 8, and equivalent), the activity day can be adapted for larger school groups and for students of different ability levels.

What's included?

The complete set of downloadable materials needed to run your very own Faraday Challenge Day includes:

  • Teacher's pack
A list of the practical materials needed to run the activity, presenters’ notes highlighting key areas and reinforcing key themes throughout the day, some handy hints on how to deliver the day . . . plus printable Faradays currency and student certificates that you can award to students at the end of the day.
  • Student booklet
Available as an editable MSWord document for ease of use, adaptation and reproduction.
Each team is asked to assign real industry roles and each team member will need to be assigned more than one role and feed into different aspects of the day. A great experience at multitasking.
  • Introductory PowerPoint presentation
A step-by-step guide for you and your students, taking you through each element of the activity day.
  • Film clips
These clips can be viewed online and can also be downloaded. You will need a video player installed on your computer which plays MP4 clips (digital media players are readily available to download for free online).
  • Start-up videos
Have a look at our 6 start-up videos below where we take you through the days - how they should run and what they entail.
